Press Release
Klein Editions is pleased to present Classic Art & Anti-aesthetics, a solo exhibition featuring 13 works from Slasky’s Neo Urban Classic series, an ongoing project started at the end of 2017. In this selection of works, the artist transports the classical art that shaped him during his formative artistic years, through to the present time. By placing the original artworks’ characters into contemporary social and artistic environments, Slasky created provocative pieces that have sparked many conversations on digital art’s merits and shortcomings.
In the Neo Urban Classic series Slasky combines the beauty of classic art with what is sometimes considered an almost anti-aesthetic form of visual representation – in this case graffiti and tattoos. The merging of the two creates a powerful contrast that serves as a metaphor for the effects of the passing of time: inevitably leading to the death and re-birth of values according to historical period. Because these values are often connected, and contributing factors to artistic expressions, Slasky claims their relevance in today’s conversations about new artistic genres.
In defending the significance of digital art, Slasky has become one of the most affluent artists in this genre.
